TWO DAY TRAINING PROGRAMME 
We will train you in the art of opening Commercial, Domestic, Vehicle locks and Electronic Door Entry Systems. 

DAY 1 

  • Introduction.
    A brief discussion about the course you are attending, what you can expect from us and what we in turn expect from you. If you have any initial questions they can be answered at this point.
     
  • Registration & Enrolment.
    The balance of payment will be taken for your course and you will be introduced to your training instructor(s) and fellow trainees.
  • Health & Safety Talk.
  • A practical Introduction to the types of Cylinder and Wafer Locks. (Further details below)
  • Methods of Opening. (Further details below)
  • Tools of the Trade
     
  • Methods of Opening:- 
    Individual picking using the following methods; Picking, Raking, use of a Pick Gun, Key Jigglers (for wafer locks), Special Keys, Super Mica and Tubular Picks. Tubular locks can be found in the following: car & cycle security, steering locks and fruit machines.
     
  • Opening Cylinder Locks:- 
    Rim, Legge, Yale, Union, Zone, Abus, Lister, Avocet, SKS, ERA, Bird, Panda, Weisser Knoblocks, Patio Doors Euro & Euro thumb turn, High security Ingersoll night-latch, Padlocks, Shutter Locks, Push Button and Digital Locks & various other makes.
     
  • Specialist Section:- 
    Oval & Euro-Cylinder locks (generally found in UPVC doors.) An explanation of problem areas; Prevention and cure, Measurements and Identification of different locks and the maintenance and cost of various components and locks. The replacement of complete door locking mechanisms will also be included in day 2.
     
  • Opening Wafer Locks:-
    Cars, Caravans, Boats, Garage Doors (various makes), Petrol Caps, Cycle Locks. Door & Window Security Locking Systems, Universal UPVC Locks, High Security Sash Lock, Patio Door and Multi Purpose Door and Window Locking Mechanism. 
     
  • Broken Key Extraction. 
    The removal of broken keys from various types of locks using special extractor picks.
     
  • Electronic & High Security Door and Video Entry Systems:- 
    The installation and maintenance of; Card Lock, Proximity Compact & Touchlock Systems. Reading codes, changing codes & problem solving. 
     
  • Lock Maintenance & lock identification.
     
  • A talk about suppliers, ordering stock, pricing jobs, tools you may want to purchase & setting up your business. 
     
  • You are also given information on obtaining information from prospective customers to aid in pricing for jobs and to confirm that you have suitable stock to complete the job.

At the end of the days training there will be a course relevant question and answer session where we will re-cap on the subjects covered up to that point.

DAY 2

  • Practical Introduction to types of Mortice Locks 2,3 & 5 Lever. (Further details below) 
  • Lock opening techniques. 
  • A discussion followed by a practical demonstration.
     
  • Tools of the trade.
     
  • Practical experience for the trainee
     
  • Methods of Opening Mortice 3 & 5 Lever Dead & Sash Locks:-
    Including the leading name brands: Chubb, ERA, Legge, Coulson, Securefast, Union, Avocet, SKS, Walsall, Merchant, Euro-Profile, Rim and many more. Opening 5-lever locks which are BS3621 standard & locks classified as anti-pick & anti- drill. Also covering specialised Mortice Locks eg. Horizontal Mortice & Bathroom Mortice. * 
     
  • Drilling Techniques for All Locks:-
    In addition to the above you will also be given instruction in the art of drilling and the position of the drill points where the drill will have maximum effect and cause the minimum amount of damage.
     
    There will also be practical hands on drilling for the trainee.
     
    A colour reference pack will accompany your course notes showing the location of the drill points.
     
    Including some tricks of the trade. 
     
  • Fitting New and Lock Replacements:- 
    UPVC Doors (Euro-Cylinder full locking systems). Wooden Doors using a jig & manually, Patio Doors and Sheds etc. Cylinder, Mortice and Wafer Lock Replacements including Garage Doors & Filing Cabinets.
     
  • Practical Car Lock Opening:-
    Car Opening Tools, choosing the correct method and tool for the car, the use of Key Jigglers and Lock Picking. We also include a comprehensive car-opening guide in your course notes for your reference. You will be taught to gain entry to 99% of cars, all without causing damage.
     
    Key Cutting Section:-
     
  • Key Cutting Health & Safety
     
  • Key Cutting Machines:- 
    You will be given practical instruction on; setting a cylinder machine to cut household and car keys and setting a Mortice machine to cut 2,3 4 5 Lever Mortice keys.
     
  • Key Cutting:- 
    A practical introduction to the art of key identification and cutting. You will identify key types, blanks and methods used for different key type and cut keys after receiving instruction.
     
  • Security Keys:- 
    Key identification, security compliance and cutting. 
     
  • Master keying and keyed alike systems:- 
    Highly specialised, a full explanation will be given on the course.

At the end of the days training there will be a course relevant question and answer session where we will re-cap on the subjects covered up to that point.

CITY & GUILDS CERTIFICATE COURSE

DAY 3

Day 3 is for the City & Guilds Locksmithing Skills Certificate course only. 

In order to achieve the Locksmiths Skills certificate you will be working through activity sheets to assess your level of understanding. 

You will be given the opportunity to revise on all of the aspects of training that you have received which are grouped in sections called 'activities'. 

Each activity comprises of a number of units and you must successfully complete a set amount of these units to pass the activity. i.e. 8/8. 

You can choose 10 activities to complete out of the 12 activities available. When you receive your certificate it will list each activity that you have successfully completed. 

Certificates will be sent to Anvil Locksmiths and we will forward them to successful candidates in approximately 5 weeks. The cost of the certificate is included in the course cost so successful candidates will have no further costs to pay. 

You are not guaranteed to pass any or all of the activities as they are assessed on each individual's ability. 

If there are any activities that you have not successfully completed, you may return at a later date to attempt them again. 

Should you want to return to complete any activities there will be an additional charge for the training and for replacement certificates. The price will vary depending on the amount of activities to be re-attempted.
